The Fair Trade Center, a Swedish non-governmental organization (see website here), produced the documentary Santa's Worskshop: Inside China's Slave Labour Factories, a few years ago. While it proves to be full of harsh criticism of the Chinese factory system (applicable to many other countries, no doubt) and exposes the difficult realities in the daily lives of desperate laborers, the producers' aim is to make the audience think then react. Is the blame to be found in the government, the factory owner's, the laborers, the foreign corporate buyers who shop for outrageous deals, or in the hands of the average consumer who buys these products? What if anything can be done? Finally, how does this relate to the debate for Monday on minimum wage?
